Traditional Renewal
Winchester, MA
This beautiful traditional home located in a picturesque neighborhood of Winchester, MA has a wonderful story behind the stunning design. We have had the pleasure of working with the homeowners since they purchased the home several years ago. We began with a renovation to restore the homes’ historical features, focusing on wood working, adding built ins, as well as updating the main living spaces. Then recently, as the homeowner’s design style and needs changed, they asked us back to assist them with refreshing their spaces. We focused highly on design details such as wallpaper, window treatments, lighting, and furnishings. We had a great foundation to work with; however, each space needed to be enhanced and made more functional for this family of five plus extended family and friends.
We transformed the light and bright traditional entryway into a more sophisticated and transitional design. We did this by using neutral tones throughout, installing elevated patterns and textures, and adding modern furnishings. The space is grounded by a beautiful Landry and Arcari rug, which compliments the neutral yet dramatic wallpaper by Kravet. The Rope Center Table by Bungalow 5 fits the space perfectly and acts as a functional place to set items down. Above that the newly installed bold light fixture by Shades of Light illuminates the space. The updated seat cushions allow the homeowners a beautiful and equally durable place to take off their shoes and they can rest easy knowing the Perennials performance fabric will stand the test of time as it is stain and fade resistant, mildew and mold resistant, and bleach cleanable so no matter what accidents may occur throughout the years this fabric will clean up easily and look as good as new.
The enclosed formal dining room received silk window treatments to complement the existing wallpaper that had been installed during our first renovation. In addition to that we added a stunning new Landry and Arcari rug to complete the space.
Another update we had the pleasure of making was in the front living space/ piano room. We gave the front window new life by adding new window treatments, reupholstering the existing window cushion in complimentary fabric, and adding matching pillows to complete the nook.
The living room, although beautiful architecturally, needed a fresh design to modernize it both functionally and aesthetically. We began by adding a neutral yet subtle colored patterned wallpaper by Barclay Butera to set the tone for the space. We installed modern wall sconces by Visual Comfort and a statement mirror above the fireplace to highlight the existing fireplace and make it a focal point in the room. Another key design feature we added was painting the interior of the existing built-in bookcases a rich blue allowing them to really pop. The blue tone ties in perfectly to the fabric we selected throughout the space. The blue and green floral Pindler window treatments are an unexpected pattern in this otherwise linear space – it is not only beautiful but adds so much personality to the space.
For the seating, we selected a pair of swivel chairs that tie into the cohesiveness of the space and allow your eye to flow from one area of the room to the next seamlessly, while also allowing the family a cozy nook and additional seating. The striped velvet Camden Chair and Ottoman by Kravet provides a stylish lounge option. The dark green leather coffee table was custom-designed locally and is the perfect place to set a drink down while enjoying time in the space. This living space is now beautifully updated, functional, and can accommodate many.
