What to Expect: The Handoff and Pre-Construction Process

Lee Kimball What to Expect

Once you’ve gone through design development and signed your Home Improvement Agreement, the Lee Kimball team goes into action handing your project off from the design team to your construction team, including your project manager and lead carpenter.

In this critical phase leading up to the start of construction, a lot happens behind the scenes. A thorough internal review of all of your project details takes place, including the plans, specifications and project schedule. A detailed site check is scheduled where we confirm measurements, access, site protection and staging. In addition, permits are secured, trade partners are scheduled, and materials are ordered using our integrated procurement schedule to insure everything is available when needed.

Approximately one to two weeks before construction begins, we schedule a pre-construction meeting with you, your construction team, and your lead designer. You’ll meet your project manager and your lead carpenter, who also serves as an on-site supervisor. We will also review the plan moving forward, including your construction schedule, site protection, and how we will communicate. We will introduce you to your online construction portal. It’s an easy-to-use and collaborative communication tool that has all your project information in one place, including project details, plans, specifications, your construction schedule and photos of your project as it progresses.

Moving forward, your key points of contact will transition to your project manager and lead carpenter. However, the design team remains an integral part of your project team, working closely as needed with the construction team to address any design questions.

Our goal throughout each phase of our process is to make your experience one of comfort, clarity, and trust. The handoff and pre-construction meeting are key steps in establishing that foundation as we are about to begin the construction phase of your project.
